THE INCREDIBLE RICHNESS OF A TERROIR
That of the Western Marne Valley and Its Micro-Terroirs, Which Vary Greatly Depending on Their Exposure and Depth, Sandy at the Bottom, Clayey at the Top, or Even Limestone in the Subsoil. These “Hidden” Terroirs Deserve Our Attention, as They Righfully Claim Their Location on the Map.

Alexandre and Alice's first cuvée, called Point Fixe, is a plot-based cuvée from the locality known as "Les Loges". It was an obvious choice for Alexandre, who wanted to reveal the typical characteristics of a core parcel and its flagship grape variety, Meunier.

By embarking on an exploration of his terroir, the winemaker hopes to take us to the origin of his wine's style. His mind is constantly seeking to understand the whys and wherefores of everything, so delving into his subsoil is an obvious way to better understand his own growing practices and the final result of his cuvées.
THE WESTERN PART OF THE MARNE VALLEY

Romeny-sur-Marne is located about 70 km southwest of Reims, in the direction of Paris.

It is one of the westernmost areas of the entire Champagne appellation.
GEOLOGICAL HISTORY
The Champagne subsoil is located to the east of the Paris Basin, a vast amphitheater stretching from southeast to northwest. It takes the form of a basin filled with sediments. The geology of Champagne mainly concerns formations resulting from deposits in this basin during the Mesozoic (or Secondary Era) and the Cenozoic (or Tertiary Era).

In the area under study, only formations dating from the Cenozoic are present. Continuous erosion, intensified at the end of this Quaternary period by episodes of freezing and thawing, is responsible for the current geomorphology.

Fauna and flora leave traces of their passage on Earth, notably in the form of fossils. In sedimentary rocks such as those found in Champagne, the dating of these fossils and their discovery in different layers of terrain make it possible to establish a chronological scale of their deposition over time.
